Dr Albert John Shimmins, BEng, BCom, MEng (Elect), DSc (Melb), whose career in radio astronomy drew upon his passion for mathematics, made a donation to the faculty of Science in 2002 for the purpose of supporting research activities in the Faculty of Science, including scholarships, equipment and grants. The fund supports the Faculty of Science Postgraduate Writing-Up Awards.
The graduate research writing-up award is designed to support Faculty of Science graduate research degree candidates during the preparation of journal articles or books which are based on the thesis submitted for a graduate research degree. Candidates must have submitted their thesis within the maximum candidature period (for graduate research students - 3 years and 10 months) to be eligible for a writing up award. Candidature must not have been lapsed. The award period is 3 months.
Applications can be submitted after the submission of the graduate research degree thesis for examination, provided they have not yet been advised of the result of the examination. Applicants must familiarise themselves with the conditions of the award, as listed in the Information Sheet.
