About

The Selby Scientific Foundation provides an award to support an early career researcher in CHEMISTRY and CHEMISTRY-RELATED disciplines.

Conditions

The award is to assist an outstanding academic establish his or her research career in Chemistry or a Chemistry related discipline. Preference will be given to applicants whose research proposal involves a new collaboration either with industry or a team of interdisciplinary researchers. ELIGIBILITY: Preference will be given to academic staff currently in a continuing position and holding a minimum of a 0.5 FTE Teaching and Research (T&R) appointment at Level A or B in Chemistry or a Chemistry-related discipline. Candidates must be within 8 years of any appointment at the University of Melbourne. Consideration will also be given to fixed-term T&R academic staff Level A or B (minimum 0.5 FTE appointment and within 5 years of completing a PhD) and early career research-only level A or B academics (within 5 years of completing a PhD), with a track record demonstrating high research capacity if their current appointment at the University of Melbourne extends until 31 December 2018.

A report is provided annually to the Selby Trustees by the successful candidate; the successful candidate must acknowledge the Selby Scientific Foundation in any publications arising from their research during the award period.

Process

The award is made by a University committee, chaired by the Associate Dean, Research & Industry - Faculty of Science, with membership including the Head of the School of Chemistry or their nominee and at least one other professor nominated by the Dean of Science.
