Established by the former School of Botany Foundation (from 1 January 2015 the University of Melbourne Botany Foundation). Initiated from a donation in 2003 by Dr Gretna Weste on her retirement from the then School of Botany. Dr Weste commenced as part time demonstrator in the department in 1959, was appointed Senior Lecturer in 1974 and Reader in 1980. Her major research interest was the oomycete pathogen "Phytophthora cinnamomi" (the cinnamon fungus). Further contributions to this fund were made by her family, colleagues and the Foundation.
Awarded by the Dean on the recommendation of the Head of the School of BioSciences.
