The late Francis Keenan, MBE,HonBAppSci(Hort) (Melb.), horticulturalist and parks administrator bequeathed one-fifth of his net residuary estate to the University of Melbourne to establish in perpetuity a scholarship or merit award at Burnley College, University of Melbourne, Yarra Boulevard, Richmond by such means and in such manner as my Trustees in their absolute discretion determine and to apply the income in each year towards such scholarship or award which shall be awarded annually or for the duration of the course of any graduate or under-graduate studying at Burnley College, based on academic merit and relating specifically to the advancement of services and practices of amenity and/or ornamental horticulture.
Selected on the basis of academic merit and the candidate's expressed interest (as stated on the application form) in one or more of the following disciplines: amenity or ornamental horticulture, community horticulture, parks and gardens. The number of scholarships awarded will depend on funds available in any year.
By application, for undergraduate, honours, postgraduate and RHD students enrolled or enrolling in the study of amenity or ornamental horticulture at Burnley Campus, Faculty of Science. Scholarships are for one year in the first instance but students may re-apply in following years. Funds provide support for students' research projects and reward excellence in the horticultural programs delivered at Burnley. This may include conference presentation, travel support, field work support, purchase of specialist equipment, and any other programs that would enrich the student's experience.
