About

Dr Roberta Cowen (Townsend) Murdoch University, WA, ex-student of the former school of Botany who specialised in algal taxonomy and biology donated funds on the terms as described.

Conditions

Funds may be used for research costs, field work or publication costs but not for travel to conferences or for equipment. Preference is to be given to work on little-known organisms. One or more grants may be provided annually and no one recipient may hold the grant for more than two successive years.

Process

The purpose of the fund is to provide financial assistance by way of a grant to a researcher, including a postgraduate student or alumnus who is associated with the former school of Botany or, from 2015, the new School of BioSciences, for systematic and taxonomic research work concerning single-celled eukaryotic organisms. Value of the award is determined by the Dean on the recommendation of the Foundation board of management, acting through the head of the School of BioSciences. The Fund is to be advertised to members of the School of BioSciences and alumni working in relevant fields.
