$5000pa for 3.5 years
An expendable gift was made to the School of Mathematics & Statistics to provide two top-up scholarships to the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA), Melbourne Research Scholarship (MRS) or Melbourne International Research Scholarship (MIRS).
Recipients must be studying full time and not in receipt of another top-up scholarship. All new PhD candidates who are recipients of an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA), Melbourne Research Scholarship (MRS) or Melbourne International Research Scholarship (MIRS) commencing from January 2018 are eligible for consideration. Australian citizens and international students are eligible.
A top-up scholarship will be awarded to commence January 2018. A recipient is expected to submit a proposal (up to one page) addressing the selection criteria. Assessment is based on 50% of the student's scholarship score and 50% on the quality of the research proposal. Applications will be assessed by a selection committee. Candidates must explain which maths topic they will be working on during the PhD; which application area they will focus on and include an outline of how to solve the problems - for example, a project which combines advances in a theoretical area in mathematics (including probability and statistics) with their applications in other fields including, but not limited to, biology, information technology, engineering or medicine.
