Data Science for Social Good

Melbourne Centre for Data Science has great enthusiasm for all the ways that data science can benefit society.

We are proud to support the Good Data Institute (GDI). An Aus/NZ founded not-for-profit that is helping to lower some of the blocks to advancement for social good.

Good Data Institute

The GDI mission is to be the bridge between the not-for-profit world and the world of data analytics practitioners wishing to do social good. Using D&A, they identify, share, and help implement the most effective means for growing NFP people, organisations, and their impact. Their ultimate goal is social good. They believe that data and analytics has tremendous potential to help not for profit organisations achieve greater impact.

Challenges faced by NFPs

Intelligent use of data can significantly increase the effectiveness of charities. This isn’t a new concept. Most, even all, charities use basic data in some way. But the potential of data is significantly enhanced when used by experienced professionals with dedicated D&A tools.

The Good Data Institute (GDI) is launching its 2024 "Data for Good" cohort program for data professionals who want to commit some of their time and skills to do social good for other NFPs.

They are a community of 100+ data professionals across Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, and since 2019, they have helped 60+ charities with over 75 data projects.
