Melbourne Centre for Data Science is pleased to team up with Data Science Melbourne Meet-up for an introductory level look at the maths of epidemiology.

Together we are pleased to host Dr Trish Campbell, a post-doctoral research fellow with expertise in epidemiologic analysis and mathematical modelling of infectious diseases, gained at The University of Melbourne. Her current research focus is on group A streptococcus and scabies transmission in Australian Indigenous and Fijian populations, developing mathematical and computational models in collaboration with the Menzies School of Health Research, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and the Telethon Kids Institute. Abstract:

In the past few months, there has been a surge in awareness of infectious disease models and the part that they can play in managing a pandemic response. "Flattening the curve" is now so commonplace it even has its own Wikipedia page!

In this talk, Dr Campbell will present an introduction to infectious disease modelling and provide an example of how it has been used to inform COVID-19 strategies in the Pacific.
