Tropics expansion nudges cyclone formation into new areas

A new paper by Dr Sharmila Sur and Prof Kevin Walsh has found that tropical cyclones are forming further from the equator as the planet warms, bringing new regions into the zone of the intense storms, including parts of eastern Australia.

The research, titled Recent poleward shift of tropical cyclone formation linked to Hadley cell expansion, has been published in Nature Climate Change, and was recently featured in Fairfax news.
