2019 Honorific Awardees from the Australian Academy of Science

Kim-Anh Lê Cao, Stephen Leslie and Lars Goerigk have been acknowledged with awards from the Australian Academy of Science in recognition of their research and contributions to their scientific fields.

Dr Lars Goerigk, from the School of Chemistry, has been awarded Le Fèvre Medal for his work in the field of Density Functional Theory (DFT). DFT is a major computational chemistry technique used routinely by chemists to support experiments and predict their outcomes.

Dr Kim-Anh Lê Cao, from the School of Mathematics and Statistics, and Melbourne Integrated Genomics, has been awarded a 2019 Moran Medal for her research in developing statistical and computational methods that are applicable to high-throughput biological data arising from frontier technologies.

Associate Professor Stephen Leslie, from the School of Mathematics and Statistics, School of BioSciences, and Melbourne Integrated Genomics has also been awarded a 2019 Moran Medal for his contribution to mathematics genetics and development of methods for analysing modern genetic/genomic data.

The 2019 Honorific Awards from the Australian Academy of Science recognise and support the outstanding contribution to the advancement of science. These awards were established to recognise distinguished research made by early-career or mid-career researchers, or for scientists who have made a life-long achievement.
