International Women's Day: Suzie Sheehy

Dr Suzie Sheehy is a Senior Lecturer in Medical Accelerator Physics in the School of Physics

My research crosses all the way from curiosity-driven research in particle physics through to inventing new technologies that can increase access to cancer care worldwide. Almost all of our modern technologies from medical devices to smartphones have come about because of this journey from fundamental research to everyday application, and I find that potential incredibly exciting, even if the timescales can be long! I still have to pinch myself sometimes when I realise that my love of physics has led me to carve out a career which allows me such freedom to pursue my intellectual interests, make real-world impact and work with incredible people.
