Eliza Kelly

Combining studies in arts and science, Eliza wanted to do research that would be directly applicable to what is happening today and in our future.

After completing a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne, I knew I wanted to continue my studies and I also wanted to broaden my knowledge of my field. Melbourne University offers the perfect intersection of Arts and Science particularly in a field like my own, Geography, so that while studying a science degree I could also draw on concepts from my previous studies and apply them to the science I was practically learning about.

I wanted to do research that would be directly applicable to what is happening today and in our future. In geography, we’re pushed to question and analyse what is currently happening in the world around us and studying at the University of Melbourne means I can work in a variety of locations around the world and truly become a global citizen. My favourite experience has been the fieldwork I have had the opportunity to do, including travelling to China for almost a month as a part of my research.

In Geography, we are pushed to question and analyse what is currently happening in the world around us. This means that all the subjects that we study and the research we do is directly applicable to what is happening today and in our future. I am inspired by the research that the all Melbourne University Geographer’s are doing in a variety of locations around the world, and by studying under them I know that I am truly becoming a global citizen

The University of Melbourne provides such a broad range of study options, particularly in the science faculty, that it’s easy to find a place where your interests will be met.
