Jessica Hall

My science degree is building my knowledge in engineering and Job Ready has helped me build my confidence in public speaking.

Jessica is a science-oriented girl who loves all aspects of STEM and thrives in an academic environment. Jessica is currently enjoying her final year of a Bachelor of Science where she’s learning all about Biomedical Engineering. Next year, she hopes to move on to a Master of Biomedical Engineering so she can become a fully accredited engineer.

While her science degree is helping her build knowledge about bioengineering systems and biomedical engineering, Jessica lacked confidence in speaking, interviews and finding job opportunities. So she signed up to Job Ready.

“I enrolled to feel more confident about myself in interviews, build my resume and gain insight into finding internships and jobs.”

Despite her fears about public speaking and job interviews, Jessica’s favourite part of Job Ready was just before the final mock interview session. In the final session of the program, students had the opportunity to practice all the skills learnt during the Job Ready program and receive personal feedback by taking part in a short mock interview over Zoom.

“Waiting in the Zoom meeting for the final interviews was nerve wrecking but having everyone together feeling the same made it exciting and I felt like part of a team.”

The mock interviews and other communication activities helped Jessica gain confidence in speaking and improvising that will help her throughout the rest of her study and future career.

While I’m still learning, I got a really great start to building my confidence and being put on the spot.”

“You’re going to be out outside of your comfort zone, but you will be so thankful for it later on. Being able to speak and work on the spot is a crucial skill so don’t fear it. It’s a safe space.”
