The Faculty of Science works with AMSI to strengthen the mathematical sciences and enhance their impact in Australian education, research, innovation and industry.

The Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) is Australia’s national voice and champion for mathematics and statistics. A not-for-profit, the Institute works with schools, universities, industry, government and the community to help shape policy and skill Australia for the future.

Located at our Parkville campus, AMSI’s membership network includes Australian universities, mathematics societies, industry and government agencies.

  • Policy and advocacy

    As Australia’s peak body for the mathematical sciences, AMSI contributes to national policy discussion and strategic initiatives that strengthen education, research, innovation and workforce capability.

  • Outreach

    AMSI engages students, teachers and the broader community through public lectures, career events, teacher professional learning, mentoring programs and scholarships that promote participation in the mathematical sciences.

  • APR.Intern

    APR.Intern collaborates with universities and industry partners to place postgraduate research students from all disciplines in internships across diverse sectors, strengthening research translation and industry engagement.

  • Research training

    AMSI’s Research and Higher Education program supports students from undergraduate study through to early-career research and professional development, enriching university curricula and fostering collaboration nationwide.

  • AMSI Online

    AMSI Online brings together expertise from Australia’s mathematical sciences community to deliver specialist undergraduate and postgraduate subjects, expanding access to advanced study for students across the country.

  • Student and teacher resources

    AMSI develops a wide range of educational resources for students and teachers, including online materials, the MathsTalk podcast, careers information and the AMSI ICE-EM mathematics textbook series.
