Infographic: Australia’s food security problem

This Foodprint Melbourne infographic highlights the problem of growing food insecurity and rising food prices due to shocks and stresses to the food system, and the need to undertake food resilience planning.

Our research shows that Melbourne’s food system will face more frequent shocks and stresses in future, leading to rising food insecurity. More Australians are becoming dependent on emergency food relief, provided by the charitable sector.

Emergency food relief does not meet the human right to adequate food, and it can lead to feelings of embarrassment and shame for recipients. There is a need for food resilience planning to ensure that everyone has dignified access to enough nutritious food in a world of shocks and stresses.
