Infographic: Resilient Food Supply Chain
This Foodprint Melbourne infographic showcases opportunities to strengthen the resilience of Melbourne’s food supply to shocks and stresses, such as fire, drought, flood and pandemic.
Our research findings reveal opportunities to increase the resilience of Melbourne’s food system throughout the food supply chain, from production through processing, distribution, retail, consumption and waste resources.
Opportunities to increase the long term resilience of Melbourne’s food system include supporting diverse approaches to sustainable food production, such as protected closed-loop and regenerative food production. It also includes encouraging decentralised, diverse and local-regional supply chains, implementing circular food economies and ensuring equitable access to nutritious food through a Right to Food approach.
There are further opportunities for strengthening resilience that apply across the entire food system, such as guaranteeing sustainable livelihoods, promoting food system networks and engaging people as food citizens.
