2024 Medal Winners
Graduate Medal Winner - Tianqi Feng
Tianqi commenced his Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne in 2020, specialising in Probability and Statistics while also undertaking subjects in computer science. During the latter half of his undergraduate studies, he discovered that his true passion lay in pure mathematics, which led him to transition into graduate studies in this area. In 2023, he began a Master of Science at the University of Melbourne, where studying graduate level topics in geometry and algebra further deepened his interest in mathematical research. Tianqi is now undertaking a PhD in mathematics at the University of Melbourne, focusing on topics in algebraic geometry.
Bachelor of Science Medal Winner - Jonathan Purcell
Jonathan commenced his studies through the University of Melbourne Extension Program in mathematics. He went on to study the Bachelor of Science, majoring in Mathematics and Statistics, alongside a Diploma in Computing.
Outside his studies, Jonathan has been an active member of the university community. He has taken on leadership roles in various student societies and has volunteered with the university on many occasions.
Jonathan has decided to continue his studies in the Master of Science program, specialising in Statistics and Stochastic Processes.
Bachelor of Agriculture Medal Winner - Zoe Sibley
Zoe completed her Bachelor of Agriculture with a major in plant and soil science. Zoe has a strong interest in soil science, pasture health, and cattle genetics. She’s passionate about improving livestock productivity and sustainability through evidence-based land and animal management. This year, Zoe commenced work at Stanbroke, a vertically integrated beef company, and further down the track she hopes to continue to support resilient farming systems that balance productivity with environmental stewardship.
