Science Abroad Travelling Scholarship

Science Abroad Travelling Scholarships (SATS) supports PhD students in the Faculty of Science undertaking travel to attend conferences, fieldwork, etc. as part of a Study Away request. This scholarship has a value of up to $1,500.

Faculty of Science Postgraduate Writing-Up Award

This scholarship supports University of Melbourne PhD and Master of Philosophy graduate researchers enrolled through the Faculty of Science once their thesis has been submitted. The award has a value of up to $5,000 and is offered on an ongoing basis.

Prestigious Travelling Scholarships

This suite of scholarships is available to current Australian/domestic students or graduates of the University of Melbourne who intend to undertake study or research outside Australia. It’s valued between $10,000–$90,000 for the duration of the overseas study, but restricted to $10,000–$30,000 per year. Approximately eight are awarded annually to students from all study areas.

Housing Bursary

This scholarship provides up to $2500 and is awarded to students who live away from home in order to attend University. Students from all study areas are eligible including both Australian/domestic students and international students.

Each year in early February, we call for applications for the Faculty's graduate research student prizes. These are competitive awards, assessed on the basis of academic excellence demonstrated during candidature. Prize availability may change from year to year, but may include:

  • John Nevill Research Scholarship (Veterinary Science)
  • Leslie H. Brunning Research Fund (Agricultural Science relating to pasture and other fodder plants)
  • The Elizabeth Ann Crespin Scholarship (Agricultural Science)
  • The Dr Frank Cope Scholarship (Agronomy)
  • JM Barrenger Overseas Veterinary Scholarship (Veterinary Science)

Student grants

Student grants are funded by various generous bequests and donations to assist students in financial need. Approximately 250 grants are awarded annually to students from all study areas, with a value from $1,000–$10,000.
