A collection of shapes in different shades of green, designed to evoke thoughts of the natural world

The BSc allowed me to pick subjects that were relevant to my major, but also meant I could explore other topics I am passionate about.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Melbourne?

The flexible model of the university that allows me to take science and breadth subjects. Also, the fact that, within the science subjects, I could pick others that are not a pre-requisite for my major, but I am passionate about. I love being able to study my core Biotechnology subjects and expanding my horizons with my science electives and breadth. I think it makes Uni Life more enjoyable and unique for each student.

Why did you want to study Biotechnology?

Science is constantly evolving. It changes every day, and Biotechnology is a clear example of that. It is a broad industry. You have a lot of opportunities and options to choose from, and the fact that it allows you to innovate, create, and help, all at the same time, is what I love the most about Biotechnology.

My favourite part about studying has been the laboratory practicals. They allow you to connect the theory with real case scenarios, make learning more enjoyable, and consolidate the knowledge gained with amazing experiments. Every lab experience made me love my career more.

What advice would you give to a study thinking about studying science?

I would tell them to go for it. Do not be afraid. Science is not a difficult path to take. It might seem like one, but if you like science, if you love doing research, understanding our world, and helping others by doing so, then nothing can stop you from achieving your career goals.
