Emily Roycroft

Emily Roycroft

PhD candidate (BioSciences)
Recipient of the 2017 Dame Margaret Blackwood Soroptimist Scholarship

I am incredibly grateful for support over two years during my PhD. With a young child, travelling for research can be financially and logistically difficult. The scholarship has significantly relieved this pressure, allowing me to visit and work with interstate collaborators, as well as to attend conferences.

Master of Science (Physics)
Recipient of the 2017 Dr Jean E. Laby Bursary

Receiving the bursary has definitely changed how I see my future from here. In knowing that there are people out there willing to give a helping hand, I want to keep pushing on with my studies, trying to break through the barriers that I’ve had in the hope that one day I will be able to give back to society through some breakthrough or contribution to the field.

Recipient of the 2019 Science Graduate Scholarship (International)

I am inspired by Biotechnology as it delves into the technical aspects of biological science. Receiving the Science Graduate Scholarship means I'm able to manage my finances with a lesser burden. My advice to anyone wanting to study biotechnology Just go for it. Get out of your comfort zone, learn new skills and meet new people.
