Electrifying medicine: revolutionary health solutions emerging from other fields

On Wednesday 23 October, Dr Catriona Nguyen-Roberston, immunologist turned Science Communication educator, led a lively discussion about the future of interdisciplinary solutions to medical problems.

The lecture, titled “Electrifying medicine: revolutionary health solutions emerging from other fields”, covered how research from outside the field of traditional medicine could make a difference in solving some of the most pressing health challenges of our time, including cancer diagnosis, treatment for people with neurological and spinal injuries and advanced diagnostic imaging.

Panellists Professor David Grayden, the Clifford Chair in Neural Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and IT, Associate Professor David Simpson, a Haimson Associate Professor in physical biosciences and Dr Katherine Morgan, Chemistry Research Fellow, spoke about their experience with industry and medical partnerships, the emerging research in their fields and the future of precision medicine.
