“Australia is a trailblazer in sustainability and I was inspired to participate in its commitment to a greener future and study abroad in Melbourne,” said Nirmalsinh.

“I had completed a Bachelor of Plastics Engineering at home in India and was working in the industry, but I realised there was so much more to learn. Embarking on this journey has been an incredible experience.”

Nirmalsinh commenced his degree in 2023 and says the unique mix of research and practical learning has been eye-opening.

“The program provides a well-rounded understanding of food-related disciplines, such as food packaging materials, new product development, food processing, and food safety and quality, which complements my existing knowledge in engineering and packaging,” he said.

“I’ve also enjoyed the time spent at the University’s Dookie campus in rural Victoria. It is a fascinating campus dedicated to research with many learning opportunities, particularly in winemaking and dairy.”

The only degree of its kind, the Master of Food and Packaging Innovation prepares students for a career in a vital and growing sector. Students may complete the course over two years (full time) or four years (part time) on campus at Parkville.

Nirmalsinh says he feels fortunate to be broadening his skillset and fuelling his passion for improved global food sustainability.

“I look forward to applying my new knowledge in the real world, exploring innovative packaging and making a meaningful impact in the industry,” he said.
