In recognition of the discoveries of cell dynamics by Jeremy, an annual award in his memory will provide support to an early career researcher working in the area of plant and algal cell biology.

The University of Melbourne Botany Foundation will allocate all gifts from family, colleagues, former students and friends of Jeremy, to this annual award.

About Professor Pickett-Heaps

Jeremy Pickett-Heaps, BA PhD Cambridge FRS FAA, died on 11th April 2021. He was Professor of Botany at the University of Melbourne from 1988 until his retirement in 2002, when he became an active Professorial Fellow. He was elected to the Australian Academy of Science in 1992 and the Royal Society in 1995 for his many contributions to plant and protistan cell biology.

Jeremy also established a laboratory devoted to filming the complex and extraordinary life of microscopic cells and microorganisms, producing a range of exceptional teaching and research videos that have thrilled and inspired generations of undergraduate and postgraduate students the world over.
