Research in probability, statistics and stochastic processes

Statistics is the science of modelling and calibrating uncertainty in data. Our researchers develop tools that cut across probability and stochastic modelling and can be applied in areas from biological processes to financial markets.

Research groups and labs

  • Centre for Environmental and Economic Research

A multidisciplinary research group of ecologists, data analysts, economists and animal and plant health specialists that focuses on environmental and economic outcomes.

  • Lê Cao Lab – Director of MIG

Integrating biological -omics data (transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, microbiome, metagenomics, single cell transcriptomics and multi-omics) with multivariate and dimension reduction methodologies and R software development.

  • Mathematical Ecology, Epidemiology and Biosecurity

This group works on interdisciplinary research problems that focus on developing mathematical and statistical models to support real-world decision-making and policy across the biological sciences.

  • Statistics Group

Statistics is the science of collecting, organising and interpreting data. Mathematical descriptions of the data collection processes and the statistical analysis are used to determine accurate statistical methods.

  • Stochastic Processes Group

This group studies a variety of areas, from the theory of branching processes to applications such as stochastic models of the stock market.

More research in the foundational sciences

We work in areas ranging from astronomy, mathematics, and chemistry to conceive, ask and then answer fundamental questions about the universe.
