Data Science Peer-to-Peer Mentoring

Are you completing the Master of Data Science?  You can be a part of the Data Science peer-to-peer mentoring program, as either a Mentor, or a Mentee.

The next Data Science Peer-to-Peer Mentoring recruitment round is opening in Semester 2. If you are eligible for this program, check back in then!

Data Science Mentoring

The aim of the Data Science Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program is to assist new Master of Data Science students in their first year of study by providing them with a broad support network, introducing them to their peers, facilitating social connections and increasing their awareness of the services available to them.

How does the program work?

Current Master of Data Science students are recruited as mentors to support and guide a group of commencing Data Science students (mentees) in their transition to their course and the University.

Mentors will first attend a training session, where they will collectively develop a list of topics or questions to discuss with their mentees each week. They will then meet with their mentees at the start of semester, and then catch up regularly throughout the semester.

Benefits of being a peer mentor

Melbourne Plus recognition

Mentors can obtain a verified digital credential through Melbourne Plus, recognising your capability in People Leadership. To obtain the Melbourne Plus credential, you must dedicate at least 10 hours to the program. This can be done through participation in the program's planned activities, events and catch ups held throughout the semester.

Network with other leaders

Additionally, at the end of the program, Mentees will be asked to nominate a mentor of their choice for a leadership appreciation event – where you can network and meet other student leaders!
