Creswick Campus

The Creswick Campus, located on Dja Dja Wurrung land, has been a centre for forest science and research since 1910.

The Creswick Campus is located approximately 130 km north-west of Melbourne, in the town of Creswick near Ballarat.

Located in a forest setting with heritage-listed buildings, the campus hosts modern facilities that are used for research and teaching in programs from across the University, such as the Matrix International Mathematics Research Institute.

The campus is situated on 15 hectares of land with adjacent native and plantation forests and thanks to the support of the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), is equipped with analytical, teaching, microscopy and forest industry laboratories.

Djandak (Dja Dja Wurrung Country) is said to be upside down Country.

Shortly after colonisation began gold was found on Djandak, heralding the start of the gold rush. Thousands of people came to Dja Dja Wurrung lands and waters to seek their fortunes, and in their haste were blind to the riches that surrounded them. The land was dug up, hills washed away, and sediments a million years old were bought to the surface. Enduring and strong, Djaara peoples connection to Djandak cannot be disrupted and overturned.

For thousands of generations Djaara have accessed the rich resources of Djandak, from the cray and fish in the rivers, to the Emu and Kangaroo of the grasslands. Plants such as wattle, chocolate lily, and lomandra longifolia were abundant. The bounty of food, medicine, shelter and resources supported the complex social and spiritual culture of Djaara. Djandak is the original University, holding knowledge, song, ceremony, and lore. At the Creswick campus we continue to learn from Djandak.
