Now in its 12th year, the University of Melbourne’s annual Science at Melbourne Festival celebrates all things science with a series of free events for students, staff and the general public held over two weeks, coinciding with National Science Week.

From public lectures and expert-led masterclasses to lab experiences, games and activities, the festival has something for everyone.

On Wednesday 12 August, more than 150 in-person and online guests attended the Science at Melbourne Conversation ‘From curiosity to change: How discovery science transforms our world’, part of Science at Melbourne Festival 2026. Panellists discussed the meaning of discovery science and reflected on challenges and biases in their own research.

Since 2015, the University of Melbourne has celebrated National Science Week with an annual, week-long Science at Melbourne Festival, showcasing the latest in STEM research across our faculties, schools, institutes and centres through free public events.
