Indigenous inclusion in our Faculty
The Faculty of Science aspires to lead Indigenous engagement and reconciliation through a shared endeavour to expand human knowledge in all aspects of the sciences.
The Faculty’s 2019–2022 Indigenous Strategic Plan [PDF, 450 KB] outlines how we will deliver on our ambitions in the areas of Indigenous employment, students, and research.
The Faculty of Science is committed to ensuring diversity and fostering inclusion among our people. Find out how the Faculty of Science is prioritising diversity and inclusion, and see some of the University's broader initiatives below.
Indigenous employment plan
As part of our commitment to supporting Indigenous research and employment outcomes, our strategic goal is to increase the number of Indigenous Australian staff employed across all University sectors to at least population parity (3.3%) by 2022.
Melbourne Indigenous Professional Employment Program
The Melbourne Indigenous Professional Employment Program is just one recruitment initiative to grow our Indigenous workforce. This two-year program provides mentoring, professional development, and cultural enrichment activities.
We also aim to identify pathways to include Indigenous Australian experts who have experience and expertise outside formal University education among our academic teaching and research staff.
Excellence in Diversity Fellowship
To support increasing the diversity of our community, the Faculty of Science recently launched a new two-year fellowship for Indigenous researchers.
The Excellence in Diversity Fellowship (Indigenous) was designed to attract, support, and retain outstanding early career researchers with significant potential for research, community impact and contribution to workplace culture.
